Arteta Unfazed by Contract Talks Ahead of City Clash

Mikel Arteta is walking into the new season with Manchester City on the horizon and his own future still officially unresolved – and he could not sound less concerned.

Back in May, co-chairman Josh Kroenke made it clear that tying down the Spaniard to a new deal sat near the top of the club’s to-do list. The extension has not been signed yet. The noise around it has grown. Arteta, though, brushed it all aside on the eve of the curtain-raiser in Cardiff.

“They [the fans] don't have to worry about any of that, because I want to be here. I am extremely happy,” he said at his pre-match press conference, cutting through the speculation with a few sharp lines. “I feel very grateful to work with the people that I work with and when we have the possibility, we will resolve that. And that's it.”

No drama. No countdown clock. Just a coach doubling down on his commitment.

For Arteta, the real battle right now is not in the boardroom but in the market and on the pitch. With City waiting in the first competitive test of the campaign, his attention is fixed on strengthening the squad rather than signing his own paperwork.

“There is always another priority, I think!” he admitted, leaning into the reality of a frantic window. “And that's the way we have been treating it, I think because everybody feels comfortable that the time on the contract is not going to be an issue.”

The message is clear: recruitment first, signatures later. The club hierarchy, he insists, shares that stance.

Arteta spoke of a complete alignment behind the scenes, stressing that his relationship with the ownership and executives removes any urgency from the situation.

“I think because my will, certainly, is to be here and I am very happy here. My feeling from the club is the same one,” he said. “That is why everyone is doing things in a really organic way.”

So the season starts with City, with pressure, with expectation. But not, if Arteta has anything to do with it, with a contract saga hanging over the dugout.
