“We just managed the last few days with him. He has been out on the pitch doing training sessions. We have just been managing the load. He is potentially available,” Arteta explained.

So Guimaraes is close, on the grass, involved. But this is a long season and Arsenal know the cost of rushing a key midfielder back too soon. The decision in the West Midlands will not be about hype or headlines; it will be about risk.

Timber still short, Saliba a long-term worry

Not everyone is ready to join the party.

Jurrien Timber, battling a groin problem, will miss the Villa trip despite clear signs of progress. Arsenal have been steadily increasing his workload, but Monday comes too early.

“Jurrien is progressing really well,” Arteta said of the Dutch defender. “It is the third week in a row that we have increased his load. If it all goes well, we can step it up next week.”

That sounds like a player on the verge of rejoining the fight, but not quite there yet.
