Arsenal Targets Jack Hinshelwood in Transfer Market

Arsenal have already ripped up the script once this year by ending a 22-year wait for the Premier League title. They are now trying to do it again in the transfer market.

Mikel Arteta’s champions have moved early and aggressively. Bruno Guimaraes, Christos Tzolis, Piero Hincapie and Illan Meslier are already through the door, a spine-and-depth rebuild that underlines how little appetite there is for standing still at the Emirates.

Yet Arsenal are not done. Not close.

Arsenal push to front of queue for Hinshelwood

According to a report in The Sun, Arsenal are now “leading” Manchester United and Manchester City in the chase for Brighton’s Jack Hinshelwood, who is valued at around £51m.

Hinshelwood, 21, is a Brighton academy product and, crucially, more than just a holding midfielder. Naturally a defensive screen, he has also been used higher up the pitch and responded with four goals and four assists in the Premier League last season. That blend of industry and incision has clearly caught Arteta’s eye.

The report claims Arsenal view him as a “top priority” target and that Arteta believes he would be the “perfect addition” to a squad already stacked with technical midfielders. His versatility fits the manager’s demand for players who can flip roles mid-game without losing control of the ball or the tempo.

Brighton, unsurprisingly, are in no rush to cash in. Hinshelwood has three years left on his contract, giving the Seagulls a strong hand at the negotiating table. The report suggests a bid in the region of £43m to £51m could force a serious conversation, but the club would prefer to keep him.

He is not just another saleable asset, either. He is the son of former Brighton player Adam Hinshelwood, a family name woven into the club’s recent history. Letting him go would not be a straightforward business decision on the south coast.

Centre-back hunt rumbles on

While the Hinshelwood pursuit gathers pace, Arsenal’s search for a new centre-back continues to simmer rather than boil.

Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa has been widely touted as the main target. One report on Friday even claimed a deal was “99% done”, suggesting Arsenal were on the brink of landing one of the Premier League’s most reliable defenders.

That claim has been sharply cooled.

Speaking on his YouTube channel on Saturday morning, transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano stressed that Konsa is a player “very appreciated” at Arsenal and “remains on Arsenal’s shortlist”, but stopped well short of confirming any advanced agreement. The language points to admiration and monitoring, not a completed transfer.

Arsenal have been linked with other defensive options across Europe, yet two names can be scrubbed from the list for now.

Romano stated that Atletico Madrid’s Marc Pubill is simply unavailable. “The player is not for sale. Atletico Madrid have no intention to sell,” he said, shutting down any prospect of a move this summer.

He delivered a similar verdict on Bayer Leverkusen’s Jarell Quansah. Romano revealed that Arsenal made “official contact” with the German club, only to be firmly rebuffed. Leverkusen “don’t want to sell the player” and have rejected the approach.

So the champions press on. A new centre-back remains on the agenda. A winger or striker is still being weighed up. And now, in the middle of it all, Jack Hinshelwood has moved towards the top of Arteta’s wish list.

The window is long, the title defence will be brutal, and the question is simple: how much more will Arsenal gamble to stay one step ahead?
