Arsenal sent scouts to watch Inter’s pre-season derby against AC Milan, with Esposito the focus of their trip, according to reports. At 6ft 3in, he offers the physical presence Arteta has been keen to add to a forward line that already includes Viktor Gyokeres and Kai Havertz, and his recent performances have clearly made an impression.

Arsenal are not alone. Manchester United are also tracking Esposito, viewing him as a long-term option in attack. The difference lies in urgency: United are said to be prepared to wait, while Arsenal’s need for another striker feels more immediate as they shape a squad to go again in the title race.

Inter, publicly at least, are digging in. The Italian club have branded Esposito “untouchable” as they try to fend off interest from England and beyond. Behind the scenes, though, a price has been set. The Serie A side are understood to value him at around £73 million, a figure designed to test just how serious his suitors really are.

Those close to the player insist he remains committed to Inter, but the pull of the Premier League is there. Esposito is open to a move to England, and that alone will encourage clubs who believe they can tempt him away from Milan.

Villa braced for Konsa exit as Arsenal circle

Ezri Konsa has emerged as a key target, with Aston Villa now reportedly “resigned to losing” the centre-back as interest hardens into concrete offers. Arteta’s admiration dates back to the period after William Saliba’s back injury at the World Cup, when Arsenal’s defensive depth was brutally exposed. That concern has not gone away, especially with Ben White and Jurrien Timber both dealing with injury problems of their own.

Konsa, 28, fits the profile: experienced, Premier League proven, still in his prime. Arsenal’s opening bid, though, fell well short of Villa’s valuation – just over half of the Midlands club’s £60m asking price. The gap is significant, but the mood at Villa Park is shifting.

According to reports, Villa are increasingly worried that Konsa will go before the window closes. Inside the dressing room, his team-mates sense it too. Morgan Rogers and Youri Tielemans have already departed this summer, and there is a growing feeling that Konsa could be next.

Arsenal are not the only ones watching the situation. Liverpool, battling defensive issues of their own, are also in the frame. Virgil van Dijk is back in the squad after the World Cup, but pre-season has already exposed their lack of depth, with Joe Gomez picking up an injury and Jeremy Jacquet missing other friendlies.
