The transfer window is drifting towards its frantic finale and the Premier League’s heavyweights are all deep in the scramble. Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham are trying to land their final targets before the deadline slams shut – and the picture is changing by the hour.

Arsenal have fresh encouragement in their pursuit of Bradley Barcola, with Liverpool growing increasingly frustrated in talks and now ready to step away from the deal. That shift has opened the door for the Gunners, who are also weighing up defensive options.

Jules Kounde has emerged as a leading name on their radar, with Ezri Konsa another centre-back under consideration. Arsenal are keeping an eye on attacking options too, with Julian Alvarez and Iliman Ndiaye both linked as Mikel Arteta looks to sharpen his forward line.

The club’s own business has had a knock-on effect elsewhere. Bruno Guimaraes’s move to north London has thrown the future of Myles Lewis-Skelly into doubt, and the versatile defender has now been offered to both Chelsea and Manchester United.

Hall is said to believe previous tactical decisions under Howe contributed to him missing out on England’s 2026 World Cup squad, and that feeling has not faded despite Matthias Jaissle’s arrival as Newcastle’s new head coach.

United have already sounded out Newcastle over the conditions of a deal and remain on alert, with Hall’s stance adding fuel to a saga that is far from over.

Chelsea land Chavarria as ninth summer signing

Chelsea, meanwhile, have completed another piece of their rebuild. Pep Chavarria has been announced as the club’s ninth signing of the summer, adding more energy and versatility to their squad.

The Spaniard could not hide his excitement.

“I’m so excited to get started,” he said. “This is a dream for me as Chelsea are one of the biggest clubs in the world. It is a big opportunity but I am prepared and will work hard to help the team achieve success.

“There are a lot of people who have helped me get to this moment and I have to thank my family. They have always supported me and today is only possible because of them.”

Chavarria described himself as a friendly, family-oriented presence in the dressing room and a relentless runner on the pitch.

“As a player, I love to attack, defend, box-to-box, and I have a lot of intensity. I have a lot of energy on the pitch. They are my biggest abilities,” he said. “I have played in Spain all my life, and for me the Premier League is the best league in the world right now, with a lot of quality and intensity. I think that it’s the best league for me.”

Chelsea also believe Manchester City are monitoring Enzo Fernandez, a subplot that could yet shape the final days of their window.

Tottenham ready to cash in as Porro attracts Barcelona

Across north London, Tottenham are juggling big decisions at both ends of the pitch.

Cody Gakpo and Savinho remain at the top of their attacking wishlist, while Omar Marmoush, Florin Balogun and Georges Mikautadze have also been linked as Ange Postecoglou looks for more firepower.

At the back, Spurs are prepared to sanction a surprise exit. Cristian Romero is set to join Atletico Madrid, a move that would rip out a cornerstone of their defence and force a rapid rethink.

One right-back is already in the spotlight. Barcelona have made an initial approach for Pedro Porro as they brace for the possibility of losing Jules Kounde. With Arsenal circling Kounde, Barca have contacted Porro’s representatives and are weighing him up as a replacement option.

Porro only signed a new long-term contract with Spurs in June, tying him to the club until 2031, and Roberto De Zerbi sees the Spain international as a key figure. Any deal will be a fight.

The exits may not stop there. Djed Spence is edging closer to the door, with Inter Milan pushing to sign the England full-back in a cut-price deal.

Liverpool rethink as Ndiaye turns down Saudi move

Liverpool’s attacking plans are also shifting. Their pursuit of Bradley Barcola has stalled badly, with frustration in negotiations pushing the club towards walking away from the deal.

That could reopen the market elsewhere. One name in the frame is Iliman Ndiaye, whose future at Everton remains uncertain.

The Senegal international has rejected an offer from Al Hilal, preferring to stay in the Premier League rather than head to Saudi Arabia. Ndiaye, 26, is confident he can attract major interest in future windows and does not feel pressured to force a move this summer.

Arsenal and Manchester United have both previously been credited with interest in the forward, and his decision to turn down Al Hilal will only keep his name in circulation among the league’s elite.

Crystal Palace have also made a move, though of a very different scale. The club have re-signed Evann Guessand on a season-long loan from Aston Villa, with an option to buy included.
