Then came a twist.

According to Football Insider reporter Pete O’Rourke, speaking on the outlet’s podcast, Vinicius’ own preference remains to stay exactly where he is.

“It’s going to be a difficult deal to do, there’s no getting away from that,” O’Rourke said. “Real Madrid don’t really want to lose Vinicius Junior. I’m told that Vinicius Junior ideally would like to renew his contract at Real Madrid as well, but Arsenal are exploring the possibility if there is any chance he could leave.”

That line alone changes the temperature of the story. Arsenal are pushing, but they are pushing against a club that does not want to sell and a player who, at least “ideally”, wants to renew.

From a footballing perspective, the fit is obvious.
