Vasco Forward Correa Under Investigation in Trafficking Probe

Police in Brazil have launched a sweeping operation targeting alleged links between professional footballers and organised trafficking, with Vasco da Gama forward Correa among those under investigation.

Officers searched the 30-year-old’s home in the upscale Barra da Tijuca district of Rio de Janeiro and also combed through Vasco’s training ground, as part of a large-scale action codenamed “the troop”. According to the Associated Press, around 100 officers were mobilised to carry out four arrest warrants and 15 search warrants across multiple states.

Vila Nova right-back Hayner Cordeiro has also been named as one of the players under scrutiny.

“These investigations seek to gather elements to clear up crimes and dismantle the criminal structure under investigation.”

The multi-state inquiry is aimed at uncovering alleged connections between figures in professional sport and organised trafficking networks.

Correa left Vasco’s training ground without speaking to reporters, slipping away as the scale of the operation became clear.

Inside the club, the message is one of cooperation and continuity. At a press conference, director Admar Lopes stressed that Vasco are “cooperating with authorities” on the case and made it clear that, for now, nothing changes on the pitch. He confirmed that Correa “will continue training normally in the coming days and be available for matches,” while the investigation runs its course.

The timing is striking. Just days earlier, Correa had been the hero on the field, scoring the decisive third goal in Vasco’s 3-1 win over Cruzeiro on Saturday. That strike snapped an eight-match winless run in the Brazilian top flight and eased some of the pressure building around the club’s season.

Correa has made 21 league appearances this campaign and, as things stand, remains eligible for upcoming domestic fixtures. His status, though, now hangs on what comes next from police in Espirito Santo and Rio de Janeiro, as football form collides head-on with a criminal investigation that could reshape his long-term future.
