The window is open, the clock is ticking, and the money is moving. With September 1 looming, clubs across Europe are scrambling to get business done – and some of the biggest names in the Premier League are right in the middle of it.

Villa brace for £50m Watkins raid as Saudis circle

Aston Villa are standing firm, but they know what’s coming.

Al Hilal have already seen four bids rejected for Ollie Watkins, yet Villa now expect the Saudi Pro League club to finally hit their £50million valuation for the England striker if a deal is completed.

Watkins wants the move. The salary on offer in Saudi Arabia dwarfs his current wages at Villa Park and has turned his head.

Villa, though, have been unmoved so far. Their stance has been clear: meet the price or walk away. Inside the club there is growing belief Al Hilal will eventually pay up.

They are already lining up the replacement. Villa are pursuing a £65m move for Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson, who would effectively come in as Watkins’ successor at the tip of Unai Emery’s attack.

Monaco eye Pape Matar Sarr as Spurs midfield becomes a battleground

In north London, another midfield story is brewing.

Monaco have joined the chase for Tottenham’s Pape Matar Sarr, adding their name to an increasingly crowded list of admirers for the 21-year-old.

The French club are scouring the market for midfielders in case they lose Lamine Camara. He has drawn concrete offers from Crystal Palace and interest from Chelsea, and Monaco are preparing for the possibility of his departure.

Sarr, who has grown in influence at Spurs, is now firmly on their radar.

Grealish at a crossroads as City keep every door open

Jack Grealish’s future sits in a delicate balance, and Manchester City are not forcing the issue.

The 30-year-old has returned to first-team involvement, coming off the bench in City’s opening two matches, but the club are deliberately keeping all options on the table as the window runs down.

A permanent sale? Possible. Another loan? Also in play. Staying put at the Etihad with the risk of limited minutes? That too remains on the cards.

Grealish spent last season on loan at Everton and their chief executive Angus Kinnear has confirmed they have stayed in touch over a potential return.

Enzo Maresca, speaking after Sunday’s win over Bournemouth, made it clear he will coach Grealish as long as he is his player, but did not close the door on a late move. “He is here and it is my duty to coach Jack and to try to get the best,” he said. “Then it is one more week to go and we will see what happens. Not only with Jack but also other players.”

While Grealish waits, City’s wider squad churn continues. Omar Marmoush is due to undergo a medical at Tottenham today. Nico Gonzalez is close to finalising his switch to Newcastle. City are also signing Palmeiras winger Allan Elias, and a bid is expected to go in for Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez.

One week left. Plenty of moving parts.

Liverpool baulk at £80m Minteh price and scan the wings

Liverpool’s search for a winger has hit a financial wall.

Brighton’s valuation of Yankuba Minteh is considered too steep at Anfield, with the south-coast club looking for close to £80m for the 22-year-old Gambian.

Minteh is currently sidelined until October with injury, yet Brighton have held firm on the price. Liverpool had hoped to strike a deal around the £50m mark, but that gap has sent them looking elsewhere.

There is interest in one of their own, too. Celta Vigo are understood to be keen on midfielder Stefan Bajcetic, who began his career at the Spanish club, though Liverpool have not yet received a formal approach.

For now, it’s only admiration from afar.

Forest push for Javi Rueda as Neco Williams interest knocked back

Nottingham Forest are busy on multiple fronts.

Talks have opened with Celta Vigo over right-back Javi Rueda, with Forest discussing an £8m deal for the 25-year-old, who joined Celta from Real Madrid in 2024.

Tottenham have asked about Forest full-back Neco Williams, but the expectation is that he stays put at the City Ground.

Forest’s midfield rebuild is also in motion. They are in negotiations over a £13.6m move, including add-ons, for Corinthians midfielder Andre. The 20-year-old only made his league debut a year ago, and Corinthians are holding out for a higher fee as his reputation grows.

The Premier League club are pushing, but the Brazilian side are in no rush to cave.

Ipswich land Palacios in £23.5m statement signing

Ipswich Town are not tiptoeing into the market. They are making noise.

The club are finalising a £23.5m deal for Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Exequiel Palacios, with the 27-year-old having agreed a four-year contract.

It is a bold move, and it won’t be the last piece of business. Ipswich are also seeking around £9m for midfielder Anis Mehmeti, who has offers on the table from Wrexham, Birmingham and Derby.

One big arrival, one potential departure. Ipswich are reshaping their midfield with conviction.

Osmajic exits Preston as replacement search begins

At Preston, the focus has turned to plugging a new gap.

Striker Milutin Osmajic has completed his move to Genoa, a transfer Deepdale boss Paul Heckingbottom had already flagged over the weekend.

“The business we've done so far has been really good in terms of players we've brought in to replace, players who have gone out, but we've lost a lot of players,” he told BBC Radio Lancashire. “We've still got a lot to replace and now Milly is another one we've got to replace.”
