Tottenham Target Gakpo Amid Liverpool's Firm Stance

Tottenham’s search for more firepower has led them to Cody Gakpo – but Liverpool are in no mood to open the door.

Standard Sport understands Spurs admire the Dutch forward and have him firmly on their list of attacking options. At this stage, though, there have been no talks with Liverpool over a summer move and no formal bid on the table.

Liverpool, for their part, are planning for life after Mohamed Salah and are not treating Gakpo as expendable. The club have no current intention to sell as they work on bringing in a replacement for their Egyptian star.

At the top of that list sits Paris Saint-Germain and France winger Bradley Barcola, who is reportedly valued at a staggering £145million. That figure underlines the scale of Liverpool’s rebuild and the financial pressure around any big-name exits.

Gakpo’s situation adds another layer of intrigue. Caught Offside report that the 25-year-old is open to joining Spurs if the clubs can agree a fee. Football Insider have suggested Liverpool would want around £70m, a price that would test even Spurs’ newly aggressive approach in the market. Whether Liverpool soften their stance or hold the line remains unclear.

Tottenham have already backed Roberto De Zerbi heavily. Six new signings are through the door and the spend has reached £237m, yet the head coach insists the job is far from finished. By his own estimation, the club’s transfer business is only about 60 per cent complete.

He wants at least two, possibly three, more additions before the window closes. A winger is high on the agenda, with the option of another striker also being considered. Gakpo ticks both boxes: a left-sided forward who can also operate as a No9, offering tactical flexibility and immediate Premier League experience.

Spurs have identified him as a prime candidate for that role. Liverpool, though, hold the cards – and the price. The question now is simple: how much are Tottenham prepared to push, and how long can Liverpool resist if the numbers start to climb?
