Tottenham's Savinho Signing and Marmoush Talks Progressing

Tottenham’s summer rebuild is accelerating – and fast.

Roberto de Zerbi has already ripped up his midfield, with Spurs committing a combined £185m to bring in Mateus Fernandes from West Ham and Sandro Tonali from Newcastle. Now the Italian is turning the spotlight on his forward line, and the numbers involved are just as eye‑watering.

Savinho deal agreed

Tottenham have struck an agreement with Manchester City to sign Brazil winger Savinho in a deal worth £75m, with a further £10m in performance-related add-ons.

The 22-year-old is set to undergo a medical before signing a long-term contract in north London. Spurs pushed hard for Savinho last summer but were knocked back as the player chose to stay and fight for his place at Etihad Stadium.

That decision did not pay off in terms of minutes. Under Pep Guardiola last season, Savinho managed just seven Premier League starts, his opportunities squeezed in a stacked City attack. Now comes the reset: a major role under de Zerbi, a system built to showcase wide forwards, and a club willing to make him one of the centrepieces of their new era.

The total package could rise to £85m, a fee that underlines both Tottenham’s intent and City’s willingness to cash in on a player who never quite became a regular.

Marmoush next in line

The push for firepower does not stop there. Talks for Savinho’s City team-mate Omar Marmoush are, according to sources, “progressing positively”.

Marmoush joined Manchester City from Eintracht Frankfurt in 2025 for £59m but slipped down the pecking order last season. The Egypt international, who can operate across the front line, is viewed as another option to reshape Spurs’ attack around pace, movement and versatility.

If Savinho is the headline act, Marmoush could be the next big swing. The question now is how far Tottenham’s budget stretches.

Gakpo interest – but can Spurs afford it?

Spurs remain keen on Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo, yet there is real doubt over whether they can realistically finance a move for the Netherlands international on top of deals for Savinho and Marmoush.

Gakpo’s profile fits de Zerbi’s blueprint – technically sharp, intelligent between the lines, capable of playing wide or centrally. But with major sums already committed in midfield and a potential double raid on City’s attack, Tottenham may be forced to choose their battles.

Busy market beyond north London

While Spurs dominate the headlines with the Savinho agreement, the rest of the Premier League is hardly standing still.

Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa underwent a medical at Arsenal on Thursday ahead of a move worth more than £50m, a deal that would see Mikel Arteta add another England international to his back line.

Villa, braced for Konsa’s departure, are trying to reshape their own defence. An £18m bid plus add-ons for Southampton centre-back Taylor Harwood-Bellis has been rejected, with the south-coast club understood to want around £25m. Harwood-Bellis, who first arrived at Southampton in 2023 on loan and later made the move permanent, has one England cap, earned in a 2024 Nations League match against Republic of Ireland. After finishing fourth in the Championship before the Spygate scandal cut short their play-off hopes, Southampton are under no pressure to sell on the cheap.

On the continent, Inter Milan have agreed a £30m deal for Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones, while Tijjani Reijnders has completed a £52m switch from Manchester City to Saudi Arabian side Al-Qadsiah, underlining City’s broader willingness to cash in on squad players at the right price.

Liverpool test Brighton’s resolve

Liverpool, meanwhile, have seen a £50m offer knocked back by Brighton for winger Yankuba Minteh.

The 22-year-old Gambia international has produced 10 goals and nine assists in 73 appearances for the Seagulls since joining from Newcastle for £30m in 2024. Primarily a right-sided attacker, Minteh is currently sidelined with a leg injury picked up in a friendly against Roma earlier this month, but that has not cooled interest.

With Mohamed Salah gone, strengthening the wide areas is the clear priority for new Reds boss Andoni Iraola. Liverpool are expected to continue exploring a range of wide options as they test a market where Premier League rivals are demanding full value for their assets.

New season, new landscape

All of this plays out against the backdrop of the Premier League’s opening weekend. Arsenal, the defending champions, begin their title defence at home to newly promoted Coventry tonight, a fixture that will offer an early glimpse of how the balance of power might be shifting.

By the time the first ball is kicked, Tottenham could be on the brink of unveiling Savinho, deep in talks for Marmoush and still weighing up whether a move for Gakpo is financially possible.

De Zerbi wanted a different kind of Spurs. With the money spent, the deals in motion and the stakes rising, he is about to find out if this squad can live up to the ambition.
