Tiago Gabriel: Lecce Defender Attracts Interest from Milan, Palace, and Benfica

Lecce defender Tiago Gabriel is emerging as one of the most talked‑about names of the summer, and the queue for his signature is starting to stretch across Europe.

After a standout 2025/26 season in Serie A, the young centre-back has drawn firm interest from Crystal Palace and Benfica. Palace, the “Eagles” in the Premier League, have already tested Lecce’s resolve with a €20 million bid earlier in the summer, but the offer was turned down.

That rejection has pushed super-agent Jorge Mendes back into the spotlight. With Lecce holding out, Mendes has begun sounding out new destinations and, according to Alfredo Pedullà, has now put Tiago Gabriel on Milan’s table.

It is not a cold call. Milan and Mendes enjoy a long-standing, close relationship, and this is not the first time the Rossoneri have been offered the chance to move for the defender. The latest opening came on a busy day in the city: Mendes arrived in Milan to finalise a deal for Diego Moreira, and during those talks, the subject of Tiago Gabriel’s future resurfaced.

Milan have already placed the Lecce talent on their shortlist and made initial contact with the Apulian club. For now, that is where it stops: no formal offer, no agreement, only an opportunity laid out by one of football’s most influential agents.

Lecce know they have a valuable asset on their hands. Palace have been rebuffed once, Benfica are watching, and Milan have been invited into the race. The next move belongs to the Rossoneri: do they turn that initial enquiry into a bid, or risk seeing another rising defender slip into someone else’s back line?
