RB Leipzig Sign Marc Guiu from Chelsea on Long-Term Deal

RB Leipzig have made their move for the future of their attack, prising Spanish centre-forward Marc Guiu away from Chelsea on a contract running until June 2031.

It ends weeks of speculation around one of Europe’s most-watched young strikers and underlines Leipzig’s intent to reload their forward line with another high-upside project.

“Joining RB Leipzig is exactly the right step for me. The club made a real effort to bring me here and, in our talks, gave me a clear idea of the role I can play in the team," Guiu said after the deal was confirmed.

From La Masia prodigy to Bundesliga bet

Guiu’s path has been anything but smooth.

He burst onto the scene at Barcelona, debuting at just 17 and quickly drawing headlines as the next powerful No. 9 off the La Masia conveyor belt. Chelsea swooped in 2024, hailing his arrival as a statement signing for the future.

Then came the logjam.

Dropped into a bloated squad at Stamford Bridge, Guiu struggled to secure regular minutes in the Premier League. He flickered into life in Europe, especially in the Conference League, where his performances hinted at the ruthless penalty-box presence many scouts had raved about. Leipzig’s long courtship pays off

This is no opportunistic grab from Leipzig.

Managing Director for Sport Marcel Schäfer made clear that Guiu had been right at the top of their list as they reshaped their frontline. His profile, Schäfer insists, is tailor-made for the club’s high-octane style.

“Marc is a very good fit for our RB DNA with his intensity, pace and incredible work rate. He’s relentless in his work without the ball, while he’s also a real presence in the box and is always looking to get at goal," Schäfer said.

The move is the product of a long scouting process rather than a last-minute scramble. Leipzig’s recruitment team tracked Guiu closely from the moment he left La Masia, convinced that his blend of physicality, movement and mentality would translate perfectly to the Bundesliga.

“We’ve been in contact with him for a long time and have followed his development very closely, so we’re delighted that he has chosen RB Leipzig. We’re convinced he has the quality and mentality to make an immediate impact, while he still has plenty of room to develop further,” Schäfer added.

A calculated leap for club and player

For Guiu, Germany is not a gamble, it is a calculated step. After Barcelona and Chelsea, he joins another ambitious club with a clear track record of polishing raw talent into elite performers.

He knows exactly what Leipzig represent: a proven pathway rather than a promise.

"RB Leipzig have shown time and again that young players can develop here at the very highest level. RBL are also an ambitious club with high aspirations in every competition. I want to play my part in achieving those goals while continuing to improve every day," the Spaniard said.

Leipzig get a hungry, physically imposing forward who has already tasted the pressure of two giants. Guiu gets what he has been missing for years: a defined role, a clear plan, and a club that has built its modern identity on turning potential into power on the pitch.
