Rangers Fail in Driouech Bid as Celtic Nears Hassan Signing

Rangers’ pursuit of Couhaib Driouech has hit a familiar wall – a firm “no” from PSV Eindhoven – and this time even an improved offer has not been enough to move the Dutch club.

An upgraded £6m bid from the Ibrox side has been rejected, with PSV holding their line as interest in the 24-year-old widens across the continent. The knock-back has not gone unnoticed. Burnley and Celta Vigo have now stepped into the race, sensing opportunity where Rangers have so far found resistance.

The plot thickens with Driouech’s own stance. The winger is understood to hold a slight preference for Celta Vigo after the Spanish club joined the chase, adding a La Liga pull to a battle that had initially looked like a straight fight between Rangers and PSV’s valuation. For Rangers, it is a familiar tension: ambition in the market, but no guarantee that money – or timing – will be enough.

Monaco win the race for Ghedjemis as Scottish bids fall short

On the other side of the Old Firm divide, Celtic and Rangers have already come off second best in another winger pursuit.

Fares Ghedjemis, the 23-year-old Algeria international at Frosinone, has been made Monaco’s top target for the right flank. The Ligue 1 club have already seen a proposal of £6m plus £1.7m in bonuses turned down, but crucially, they are preparing an improved offer and remain firmly in the driving seat.

Frosinone’s stance has been consistent. They rejected that Monaco bid, and they also turned away £8.6m offers from both Celtic and Rangers. The Italian side clearly believe Ghedjemis can command more, and Monaco look prepared to test that belief again. For the Glasgow clubs, it is another reminder of the financial muscle and allure they are up against when French and Spanish top-flight sides come calling.

Hassan edges towards Celtic as visa delays stall final step

Celtic, though, are far from empty-handed in this window. Their move for Haissem Hassan is edging towards completion, even if the final step is currently stuck in paperwork.

The 24-year-old Egypt winger has been left out of Real Oviedo’s squad for their pre-season match against Le Havre, with a £9m offer from Celtic on the table and an agreement in place for a long-term deal running until 2030. The omission from the travelling party is no coincidence; Hassan is waiting for the green light to undergo a medical.

The only obstacle now is off the pitch. Visa issues are holding up the formalities, but the structure of the deal is already clear. Real Oviedo are set to receive £6m up front, with a further £1.3m due if the Scottish Premiership champions reach the Champions League proper.

Julian Calero, Oviedo’s head coach, has made the club’s position plain: they will not stand in Hassan’s way. When a manager speaks that openly, it usually signals the endgame. Celtic have identified their man, the player wants the move, and his current club are ready to cash in.

Rangers are still pushing, recalibrating bids and battling new competition for Driouech. Celtic are waiting on a visa stamp to finalise Hassan. Monaco are preparing another swing for Ghedjemis.

The window is still open, but the clock is already separating those who get their winger and those left searching for the next name on the list.
