QPR's Promising Start: A Call for Caution

Queens Park Rangers’ bright opening to the season has caught the eye, but one long-time observer is urging a touch of restraint.

Ian McCullough, QPR supporter and journalist, sees clear signs of progress, particularly in the depth of the squad, yet he warns against early-season hype.

“At Blackburn at the weekend, they won the game through the strength of the bench,” McCullough said, pointing to an area that has often let Rangers down in recent years. This time, when the game tightened, the substitutes tilted it.

“They've got a real quality on the bench that they didn't have last season. In that kind of side the club has progressed.”

That, for McCullough, is the key shift: QPR now have options. Real ones. Players who can change a match rather than simply fill shirts.

But he is not getting carried away, and he doesn’t think others should either. The fixture list so far offers a note of caution.

“As I keep saying with QPR, they've played three teams really that they should be beating – Blackburn, Portsmouth, Bolton. Had they lost any of those games, questions would be asked.”

So the message is clear. The start is encouraging, the squad looks stronger, and the bench finally has teeth.
