Plymouth Dominates Barnsley 3-0 to Secure Play-Off Spot

Plymouth surged into the Sky Bet League One play-off places with a ruthless 3-0 dismantling of Barnsley at Home Park, climbing to sixth after a night when everything clicked in front of goal.

The game had barely started when on-loan Tottenham winger Oli Irow ripped it open.

With less than a minute gone, Julio Pleguezuelo swept a ball out to the left. Irow took it in stride, drove at Tyrese Noslin, chopped inside and unleashed a vicious right-foot strike. Rogan Ravenhill flung himself at it, but the shot screamed past him and into the top corner. One touch to set, one to finish, and Barnsley were chasing shadows from the first attack.

For a spell, the visitors responded well. Noslin almost made amends on 20 minutes, pouncing on a loose ball just inside the area as Plymouth tried to clear. He thumped his effort across goal, the strike flashing inches wide of the upright. That was Barnsley’s moment. They let it slip.

Two minutes later, they were punished.

From a long throw launched in by Argyle captain Wes Harding, Ravenhill failed to claim cleanly under pressure. The ball spilled and Ronan Curtis reacted quicker than anyone, nodding into an empty net. A gift, and Plymouth accepted it without hesitation.

Curtis nearly buried Barnsley before half-time. His looping header had Ravenhill beaten, only for Connor O’Riordan to race back and hook the ball off the line, a desperate intervention that just about kept the visitors alive.

Any hope of a comeback vanished five minutes after the restart.

Bim Pepple, leading the line for Argyle, received the ball on the left edge of the box with O’Riordan tight to him. One sharp spin left the defender wrong-footed, and Pepple curled a precise finish into the far corner to make it 3-0. It was a striker’s goal: strong, composed, and clinical.

From there, Plymouth controlled the tempo and the territory, happy to manage the game with the points effectively secured and their position in the top six reinforced.

On a night when Barnsley’s errors were punished without mercy, Plymouth looked every inch a side ready to stay in the promotion conversation.
