Omar Marmoush Set to Join Tottenham from Manchester City

Omar Marmoush is on the brink of swapping Manchester blue for north London white, with his move from Manchester City to Tottenham Hotspur now in its final stretch.

The Egypt international said his goodbyes to team-mates at City today and has been given the green light to undergo a medical with Spurs, a key step before the deal is officially sealed.

Loan now, £50m obligation later

According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Marmoush will join Tottenham on loan with an obligation to buy for £50 million. The package also includes £10 million in add-ons, £5 million of which are guaranteed, taking the potential total fee to £60 million.

The 25-year-old is set to sign a four-year contract, with an option for a fifth. Eintracht Frankfurt, the club that sold him to City, will not receive a sell-on percentage as part of this agreement.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has backed up those details, reporting that Marmoush is expected to sign for Spurs on Thursday, provided all goes to plan with the medical and paperwork.

From Frankfurt form to City frustration

Marmoush only arrived at Manchester City in January 2025, rewarded for a prolific spell at Eintracht Frankfurt that thrust him into the Premier League spotlight. The move looked like a natural next step for a forward on the rise.

He never quite broke through the logjam in Pep Guardiola’s attack. Competition for places was unforgiving, and while Marmoush showed flashes of his ability, he struggled to make himself undroppable.

Reports state he scored eight goals last season for City, but managed just 16 starts in all competitions. Those numbers underlined the problem: enough impact to tempt suitors, not enough minutes to satisfy an ambitious international striker.

That imbalance pushed him towards the exit. He wanted a bigger role; Tottenham were willing to offer it.

Spurs’ rebuild rolls on

Tottenham had been working on Marmoush for weeks, pursuing him in parallel with their move for Brazilian winger Savinho. They wrapped up Savinho’s transfer from City for £75 million plus £10 million in add-ons, and kept pushing for Marmoush as part of a broader attacking overhaul.

English reports had already revealed the framework of the deal: a loan with a £50 million buy clause that becomes mandatory once certain conditions are met. Negotiations accelerated sharply in recent days, and the agreement is now effectively in place, pending the medical and final signatures.

This is all happening against the backdrop of a huge summer at Spurs. After finishing 17th in the Premier League last season, the club has spent more than £300 million in a sweeping rebuild, determined to drag itself away from the relegation battle and back towards the European conversation.

De Zerbi’s new focal point?

If he passes his medical, Marmoush will begin a new chapter in England under Roberto De Zerbi, who is attempting to jolt Tottenham’s misfiring attack into life after a stuttering start to the campaign.

For Marmoush, it is a chance he never fully had at City: to become a central figure rather than a rotation option, to carry the weight of expectation rather than watch from the bench.
