Nottingham Forest Sign Daniel Muñoz from Crystal Palace

Nottingham Forest have completed the signing of Daniel Muñoz from Crystal Palace in a deal worth up to £22m, handing Oliver Glasner a familiar and trusted weapon on the right flank at the City Ground.

The Colombia international arrives on a three-year contract, with Forest holding an option for a fourth, and reunites with Glasner after the pair worked together at Palace. For a Forest side still trying to sharpen its identity under the Austrian, this is a signing with clear intent rather than sentiment.

Forest land a proven winner

Muñoz, 30, leaves Selhurst Park having played a key role in Palace’s recent success, featuring prominently in their Conference League and FA Cup triumphs. Palace signed him from Genk for £8.5m in January 2024 and now bank a sizeable profit, helped by the arrival of Anan Khalaili from Union Saint-Gilloise, which opened the door for his departure.

Forest get a right wing-back who knows Glasner’s demands, understands the intensity of his system and has already proved he can handle the pace and physicality of English football. For a club that has churned through options in wide defensive areas, Muñoz offers something rare: reliability with pedigree.

No Henderson reunion on the cards

Talk of another Palace-to-Forest move has been shut down. Despite a bid from Forest for Palace captain and goalkeeper Dean Henderson emerging last week, Palace have made their stance clear: Henderson will not be allowed to leave before the deadline.

The club want stability for new head coach Pierre Sage and have no plans to sell any more players to Forest in the final days of the window. Forest will have to look elsewhere if they want competition or an upgrade in goal.

Forest eye Murphy as forward search continues

The Muñoz deal may not be Forest’s last move. They are exploring a late push for Newcastle forward Jacob Murphy as they look to bolster their attacking options after Omari Hutchinson’s departure to AC Milan.

Newcastle have not yet received a formal approach, but Forest interest earlier in the window is understood to have been genuine, with Everton also previously in the frame. Newcastle, for their part, are trying to strengthen their own forward line, with Lille’s Matias Fernandes Pardo and Stuttgart’s Bilal El Khannouss among the targets under consideration.

While Forest look to add, they are also negotiating exits. Eintracht Frankfurt are in talks to re-sign Arnaud Kalimuendo on loan after his spell there in the second half of last season. The German club want another loan, potentially with an option to buy. Kalimuendo was left out of Forest’s matchday 18 for the 2-2 draw at Liverpool on Saturday, a clear sign his future is being actively worked on.

A move for Harrison Armstrong from Everton, though, is off the table. After Forest made an approach, the Everton board unanimously decided not to sell, shutting down that avenue before deadline day drama could build.

Palace reshaping around Sage

While Palace have cashed in on Muñoz, they are far from done in the market.

They are close to an agreement with Atalanta to bring Honest Ahanor to Selhurst Park on a season-long loan. The plan is for Ahanor to join Chelsea permanently next summer for around £40m, with Palace effectively acting as his Premier League launchpad. Because Axel Disasi is already on loan at Palace from Chelsea, Ahanor cannot arrive via Stamford Bridge and must come directly from Atalanta.

Not all movement at Palace is under their control. Ismaila Sarr wants to leave before the deadline, and Liverpool have made an approach in the past week, with the Senegal international one of several wide options they are considering, alongside Yankuba Minteh at Brighton. Palace, though, insist Sarr is not for sale and point to his contract, which runs until 2029.

Sarr has missed Palace’s first two games of the season through injury, but his future is now a live subplot heading into the final hours of the window. The clock stops at 11pm on Tuesday.

Forest have their wing-back. Palace have their profit. The question now is who blinks first as the market tightens and the season’s early storylines start to harden into something more permanent.
