Newcastle vs Liverpool: A New Era Begins at St James’ Park

Newcastle and Liverpool step into a new era at St James’ Park this afternoon, two giants reshaped over the summer and thrown straight into a meeting heavy with history and emotion.

If Iraola can coax their best form while devising a new attacking identity without Salah, Liverpool’s rebuild will gather speed quickly.

This is more than a tactical test or a numbers game. St James’ Park will pause before kick-off to remember Kevin Keegan, a figure who belongs to both clubs’ histories. A legend in black and white, a hero in red, Keegan died in July at the age of 75. The tribute planned on Tyneside ensures the afternoon will carry a raw emotional edge before a ball is even kicked.
