Manchester United's Five-Man Overhaul and Liverpool's Goalkeeper Dilemma
Manchester United rip up the script, Liverpool circle Martínez, and Europe braces for a summer of upheaval.
This is not a window for tweaks. It’s a rebuild.
United plan a five-man overhaul
At Old Trafford, the message is blunt: five signings or bust. According to The Sun, Manchester United are drawing up plans for a sweeping summer reset built around three new midfielders, a left-back and a backup striker.
The midfield department, long a problem area, sits at the heart of it. Scouts have been tracking Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson, Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali, Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton and Brighton & Hove Albion’s Carlos Baleba. Different profiles, same aim: legs, energy, and a new technical base.
Behind the scenes, there has also been informal contact with representatives of Wolverhampton Wanderers’ João Gomes, while West Ham United’s Mateus Fernandes is firmly on the list of admirers at Carrington. Over all of that hangs one name that would change the tone of the project entirely: Aurélien Tchouaméni. A move from Real Madrid is described as likely to become an opportunity, and if it does, United intend to be in position.
The reshaping won’t stop there. At left-back, where Luke Shaw’s fitness has too often dictated United’s balance, Arsenal’s Myles Lewis-Skelly has been recommended as a competitor and long-term option. The club also want a reserve centre-forward to ease the load on their main striker and deepen the bench in attack.
This isn’t a touch-up. It’s an attempted reset of the squad’s spine and its future.
Liverpool brace for life after Alisson?
On Merseyside, Liverpool are staring at a question they never wanted to ask: what if Alisson Becker leaves?
TEAMtalk report that the club have begun actively assessing goalkeeping options for the summer, with Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martínez emerging as a serious target and the move “gaining momentum.” Juventus are pushing to sign Alisson, who has only a year left on his contract at Anfield, and the Italian side’s interest has forced Liverpool to think hard, and quickly.
Martínez, a World Cup winner with Argentina and one of the Premier League’s most imposing keepers, has inevitably attracted attention beyond Anfield. Liverpool’s interest has alerted other clubs, and Villa are already working through potential replacements. One name on their radar is Manchester City’s James Trafford.
If Alisson does go and Martínez follows him into the Anfield goal, it would mark one of the most dramatic goalkeeping shifts in recent Premier League history.
Real Madrid plot the long game with Kenan Yildiz
Real Madrid rarely wait for the market to come to them. They try to own it.
Tuttosport report that the European champions have held long-term discussions over Juventus attacking midfielder Kenan Yildiz. At 21 and fresh from a contract renewal in Turin, the Turkey international is almost untouchable this summer. Juventus have no intention of selling.
Madrid’s play is different. They want a pre-emptive right to sign Yildiz if he ever decides to move on. The proposed framework could even see players move in the opposite direction, with Real Madrid retaining options to re-sign them later. Forwards Brahim Díaz and Gonzalo García have been mentioned in connection with such a structure.
It’s the kind of slow-burn strategy that has defined Madrid’s modern recruitment: identify early, secure leverage, then wait for the moment.
Vlahovic on the market as giants circle
Dusan Vlahovic may be heading for a crossroads.
Corriere dello Sport link the Juventus striker with Bayern Munich, AC Milan, West Ham United and Manchester United, with his contract due to expire in the summer and no guarantee of a renewal. For a 26-year-old centre-forward in his prime, that is a flashing green light across Europe.
Bayern have already stepped forward to show their interest, hunting for a long-term No. 9 solution. Milan could move if Massimiliano Allegri remains in charge and pushes for a focal point of Vlahovic’s profile. West Ham and United, both searching for more firepower and presence up front, have reportedly tracked him since last summer.
If Juventus and Vlahovic cannot find common ground, one of Europe’s most coveted strikers will be available for nothing. That kind of opportunity rarely goes begging.
Barcelona eye Álvarez as PSG step aside
In Spain, Barcelona’s search for a successor to Robert Lewandowski has taken a sharp twist.
Sport report that Paris Saint-Germain are not pursuing Atletico Madrid striker Julián Álvarez, despite noise elsewhere linking the Argentina international with a move to Paris. Luis Enrique does not currently have Álvarez in his plans.
That stance opens a clear lane for Barcelona, who see the 26-year-old as a potential long-term replacement for Lewandowski. The path will not be uncontested. Champions League finalists Arsenal are also monitoring Álvarez as they look to sharpen their own forward line.
For Barcelona, locked in a financial balancing act and a sporting rebuild, winning that race would be a statement. Losing it could reshape their entire attacking strategy.
Europe’s undercurrent: pressure, poaching and power plays
Away from the headline sagas, the market is already humming.
Some Premier League clubs have registered interest in USMNT and Monaco striker Folarin Balogun, according to Nicolo Schira, with his profile as a mobile, goalscoring No. 9 keeping him on English shortlists.
Tuttosport report that Juventus are plotting a bold free-agent double swoop on Manchester City, targeting Bernardo Silva and John Stones if they become available, while also keeping tabs on Bayern Munich defender Kim Min-jae, Real Madrid’s David Alaba and Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker. It’s an ambitious rebuild on paper, underpinned by experience and versatility.
The Daily Mail say Liverpool, Newcastle United and Everton are all tracking Jarrod Bowen, who could leave West Ham United even if they stay up. A proven Premier League forward with goals and work rate, Bowen would not lack suitors if he pushes for a move.
TEAMtalk claim Atalanta midfielder Ederson is willing to join Manchester United, but Atletico Madrid will not pursue him at the €50 million asking price. In Germany, Sky report that striker Serhou Guirassy wants to leave Borussia Dortmund, with AC Milan, Tottenham Hotspur and Fenerbahce currently leading the chase.
The hunt for emerging talent continues as well. Sky Germany note that Manchester City want to sign teenage Hertha Berlin midfielder Kennet Eichhorn and immediately loan him to Bayer Leverkusen, while Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig are also interested. City are also monitoring Lille striker Matias Fernandez-Pardo, according to Nicolo Schira.
TEAMtalk add that Everton’s push to sign Roma right-back Wesley Franca could collapse if they fail to qualify for European football, with Arsenal and Liverpool also watching the Brazilian. Lazio’s Mario Gila and Royale Union Saint-Gilloise’s Anan Khalaili, say Corriere dello Sport, are concrete targets for Napoli as they try to reinforce a back line that has lost its edge.
At the coaching level, The Sun report that Chelsea have met with Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola as they survey options for the dugout. Xabi Alonso, Oliver Glasner and Marco Silva are also under consideration, each offering a different vision of how to reboot a troubled squad.
In goal, Corriere dello Sport state that David de Gea wants to stay with Fiorentina despite interest from Juventus, a sign that the veteran Spaniard may have found the stability he craved after leaving Manchester United.
And the saga of Darwin Nunez takes yet another twist. Football Insider report that Newcastle United, Chelsea and Juventus are all keen on the Al Hilal striker, a player whose raw talent continues to tempt clubs willing to gamble on unlocking his full potential.
The names will change, the rumors will rise and fall, but the pattern is clear: this summer is shaping up to be less about fine-tuning and more about power shifting. Who moves first, and who hesitates, could define the next few years of European football.
