Manchester United Offloads Bayindir to Celta Vigo as Vitek Nears Exit

Manchester United’s goalkeeping department is on the move again, and this time it’s not about arrivals.

Altay Bayindir, who never truly got a look-in at Old Trafford, is heading out. Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that United have agreed a deal with Celta Vigo for the Turkey international, marking the first significant outgoing in what promises to be a frantic final month of the window.

The move is a loan with a €4m buy option, a fee that can rise depending on appearances. Bayindir has been given the green light to travel for his medical and to sign the paperwork. For a player who spent last season lodged behind Andre Onana and Tom Heaton, it’s a long-awaited chance to actually play.

United’s summer planning in goal explains the decision. Karl Darlow arrived on a free with a clear brief: experienced, dependable cover for Senne Lammens. Heaton, content and firmly established as the No 3, remains the steady veteran presence in the background. That left Bayindir squeezed out, surplus to requirements despite his profile and potential.

The club has chosen clarity over congestion. With the hierarchy settled, Bayindir needed minutes, United needed flexibility, and Celta Vigo needed a goalkeeper. The pieces fit.

And he’s not the only one on the runway.

Radek Vitek, another of the names flagged for a possible exit, is also closing in on a move. Overnight developments have pushed Manchester United towards a permanent agreement with Middlesbrough for the 22-year-old, who has long been on the fringes of the first team without breaking through.

Wider Reset

This is part of a wider reset. Six players were recently identified as likely departures – Bayindir, Vitek, Harry Amass, Toby Collyer, Ethan Wheatley and Joshua Zirkzee – as United look to trim and reshape the squad while chasing a third new midfielder and a left-back before the window shuts.

One target, however, is off the table. Lewis Hall will not be that left-back. After cashing in on Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon and finally sanctioning Bruno Guimaraes’ move to Arsenal, Newcastle United have drawn a hard line. Hall, they insist, is going nowhere.

So United push on, juggling exits and arrivals, trying to balance the books without blunting ambition. Bayindir heads for Spain, Vitek edges towards Teesside, and the Old Trafford recruitment team turns back to the market with a simple question hanging over the final weeks: who comes in to justify all this clearing out?
