Liverpool Trims Squad: Morrison Joins Sheffield Wednesday on Loan

Andoni Iraola has started to sharpen his Liverpool squad, and the first cuts are already out the door on loan.

Kieran Morrison, one of the standout performers on Liverpool’s pre-season tour of the USA, has completed a season-long move to Sheffield Wednesday. The winger will spend the entire 2026-27 campaign at Hillsborough.

At 19, Morrison had options. Interest arrived from clubs on the continent, but he has chosen League One, convinced that regular starts in a demanding division will accelerate his development more than a glamorous bench role abroad. He wants minutes, not postcards.

Liverpool clearly see a long-term future for him. Earlier in the summer, the club moved to secure his services with a new contract running until 2030, a firm statement of faith in his potential even as they send him out to learn the senior game elsewhere.

While Morrison heads to Yorkshire, another Liverpool defender is preparing for a different kind of reset.

Calvin Ramsay is set to complete a loan switch to St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership. The 23-year-old right-back, who is out of contract at Anfield next summer, will look to re-establish himself with consistent football back in Scotland.

For Iraola, these moves clear space in a crowded squad. For Morrison and Ramsay, they could define what comes next in their careers.
