Liverpool's Ambitious Transfer Plans: Sarr and Minteh Targets

Liverpool are pushing for a dramatic attacking rebuild in the final hours of the transfer window – and they want it to be big.

According to journalist El-Hadji Loum, the club would love to bring in both Ismaila Sarr and Yankuba Minteh before Tuesday night’s deadline. The ambition is clear. The problem, as ever, is money.

Barcola in, but Liverpool aren’t done

Liverpool are on the verge of confirming Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain as their marquee summer signing. The France international is expected to arrive as the headline addition, but he is not planned to be the last new face through the door at Anfield in the next 36 hours.

The club are working on another winger before tomorrow’s 11pm cut-off. That move is tied directly to Cody Gakpo’s future.

Once a wide option is secured, Gakpo is expected to complete an £85m switch to Manchester City. The Dutch forward had previously looked on course for Tottenham Hotspur, but City’s late entrance into the race turned his head towards the Etihad.

Sarr preferred as late-window priority

Behind the scenes, the focus is on Crystal Palace’s Ismaila Sarr.

Fabrizio Romano and other leading reporters say Liverpool are in talks with Palace over a late deal for the Senegal international. GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Ben Jacobs reported on Sunday night that Sarr is actively pushing the Eagles to sanction his move to Anfield.

Jacobs also claims that while Liverpool are exploring deals for multiple wingers, Sarr is the preferred option, even with Palace resisting a sale.

Loum, though, has added another layer. Posting on X, the Foot Mercato journalist stated that Liverpool’s ideal scenario would see them land both Sarr and Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh before the window closes.

That is where the financial reality bites.

Liverpool have already had a £60m offer for Minteh rejected. To secure both Sarr and the Brighton winger now would mean committing another nine-figure sum in the final hours of the window – an outlay north of £100m on top of existing business.

Fixing a blunt attack

The urgency is easy to understand.

Liverpool are coming off a disappointing 2025-26 campaign and have stumbled into the new Premier League season with back-to-back draws against Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest. The edge that once terrified opponents has dulled, especially after the departure of Mohamed Salah.

Barcola, Sarr and Minteh would change the profile of this front line overnight. All three offer raw pace, direct running and the kind of vertical threat that stretches defences and unsettles full-backs.

That speed would not just benefit the wide areas. It could open lanes and pockets of space for Liverpool’s central creators and finishers – the type of environment where players like Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz, already at the club, could thrive.

Minteh’s impact at Brighton has already caught the eye. Senior sports writer Charlie Parker-Turner summed up one recent display succinctly: Kaoru Mitoma and Yankuba Minteh were “simply unstoppable” in a standout win, with Georginio Rutter drawing the best out of both.

That is exactly the sort of chaos Liverpool are trying to bottle.

A title charge built on speed?

The club’s hierarchy know they cannot sleepwalk through another season. The current squad still shows too many flaws, but an injection of pure pace out wide would give coach Andoni Iraola a very different set of tools.

If Liverpool can somehow navigate the budget constraints and land Sarr alongside Minteh to complement Barcola, they will emerge from this window with one of the most explosive attacking units in the league.

If they cannot, they risk going into another title race without the firepower to stay the course.
