Liverpool Reject £30m Bid for Trey Nyoni as Iraola Trusts Rising Star

Liverpool have drawn a firm line in the final days of the window. Nottingham Forest came with £30million on the table for Trey Nyoni — and were sent away with a clear answer: no sale.

Forest’s proposal was structured at £25m guaranteed, with a further £5m in add-ons. For a 19-year-old with only 21 senior appearances, it is the kind of offer that usually starts a conversation. At Anfield, it barely did. Liverpool made it plain they will not sanction Nyoni’s departure before Tuesday’s transfer deadline.

This is not a casual stance. Andoni Iraola has already built part of his season’s plan around the England youth international. Nyoni impressed the new head coach throughout pre-season, not just in the friendlies but in the daily grind at the training ground, where he has been thrown in with established first-team players and held his own.

The club’s internal calculation was laid bare earlier this month. When Liverpool agreed a £30m deal to sell Curtis Jones to Inter, they chose not to bring in a like-for-like replacement. That decision was rooted in a belief that Nyoni is ready to take a significantly bigger role this season.

Liverpool have backed that judgment with contract security too. Nyoni signed a new long-term deal last summer, and his progress over the past year has been so sharp that fresh talks over another extension are already expected. The message is obvious: this is a player they see as part of their core, not a chip to be cashed in late in August.

Nyoni’s journey to this point has been steady rather than explosive. He arrived from Leicester City’s academy three years ago and has been eased into the senior picture, accumulating 21 appearances in all competitions. But his latest cameo may prove a turning point in how he is perceived outside the club.

Thrown on against Forest in Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Anfield, Nyoni caught the eye with the kind of composure and urgency that tends to make recruitment departments sit up. Forest clearly noticed. Their bid followed, only to run straight into Liverpool’s resolve.

Iraola’s own words leave little doubt about where he stands. Asked about Nyoni before the season began, the head coach said: “I’m very happy with Trey.

“He has been very good in pre-season, not only in the games, even when he trains with us he’s facing top-level players and he’s at the level. I have no doubts with Trey. He will be very valuable this season for us, hopefully plays a lot and gives the level that I’m seeing every day in training.”

So Forest’s move has done one thing: it has underlined just how highly Nyoni is rated inside Liverpool. With the deadline looming and a £30m bid rejected, the stage is set for the teenager to justify that faith where it matters most — on the pitch, in a midfield that suddenly has his name written into its future.
