Liverpool's Pursuit of Bradley Barcola Hits Stalemate as Arsenal Eyes Opportunity

Liverpool’s pursuit of Bradley Barcola is close to hitting a wall – and Arsenal are waiting to see if the door swings open for them instead.

The Premier League club have identified the France winger as a leading candidate to fill the void left by Mohamed Salah, who departed for Trabzonspor on a free last week. Barcola fits the brief: young, explosive, and desperate for more minutes than Paris Saint-Germain can currently offer.

The problem is the price.

PSG have fixed their valuation at around £145million, according to The Athletic, and have shown no interest in softening their stance. Liverpool, for all their need and ambition, are not prepared to go that high. Talks have dragged on, but they have not moved. Not on the numbers that matter.

So the discussions now hover on the edge of stalemate, with deadline day only three weeks away. Liverpool, operating with what has been described as a threadbare squad under Andoni Iraola, cannot afford to waste the window chasing a deal that refuses to budge. The message from Anfield is clear: they are prepared to walk away and switch focus to alternative targets if PSG do not blink.

That potential retreat has not gone unnoticed in north London.

Arsenal, still hunting a marquee addition after seeing Vinicius Junior sign a new long-term contract with Real Madrid instead of testing the market, are understood to hold a strong interest in Barcola. They have already reinforced the left flank with Christos Tzolis, but the appetite for another high-impact forward has not gone away.

For Mikel Arteta, a player of Barcola’s profile – direct, creative, and with room to grow – would fit neatly into a squad already built around technical quality and intensity. The club are not expected to force the issue while Liverpool remain at the table, but they are watching closely. If Liverpool do step back, the landscape changes, and Arsenal could find a clearer run at PSG’s asking price or at least a different kind of negotiation.

Arteta has already made his intentions for the remainder of the summer plain. “Well, that's what we're trying to do,” he said when asked about further additions. “If we have the right player in the market to make us much better, we are very looking forward to that.”

For now, Barcola sits at the centre of a stand-off: PSG unmoved, Liverpool unwilling, Arsenal attentive. One club will eventually blink. The question is whether it happens in time to reshape the title race before the window slams shut.
