Liverpool’s summer rebuild on the flanks is gathering pace, and the next battle could be fought in Amsterdam.

The original plan had included an ambitious £86 million move for RB Leipzig forward Yan Diomande, but with the in-demand attacker now heading towards Real Madrid, the Reds have been forced to redraw their attacking blueprint.

And once again, they may look to hijack a rival’s move.

The new name on the radar is Mika Godts, the Ajax winger whose numbers last season bordered on outrageous. Seventeen goals and 15 assists in 44 appearances for the Dutch giants have marked the 21-year-old out as one of Europe’s most productive young wide forwards, and he has wasted no time carrying that form into the new campaign.

Two games, two assists. Both in 4-1 wins over Vojvodina as Ajax navigate UEFA Conference League qualifying. Enough to make the rest of Europe sit up.

Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham have all been credited with interest in Godts, with the Premier League’s elite tracking his progress closely. Now Liverpool have entered the conversation, according to TEAMtalk, and the timing is critical. The Merseyside club, like their domestic rivals, were informed over the weekend that Paris Saint-Germain have accelerated their own pursuit.

The room for hesitation is shrinking fast.

PSG make the first move

PSG, who also chased Diomande before losing ground in that race, have already taken a tangible step. The French champions are understood to have held positive discussions over a deal for Godts, with football advisor Luis Campos a strong admirer and convinced the winger fits neatly into Luis Enrique’s long-term plans at the Parc des Princes.

Godts is believed to be open to a switch to Ligue 1, fully aware that any move to Paris would bring fierce competition for a starting place. The price is significant: around £51 million for a player yet to test himself in one of Europe’s top five leagues. For a club, it is a calculated gamble. For a recruitment department, it is an opportunity — especially when that figure represents a cut-price alternative to the Diomande fee Liverpool had been weighing up.

Ajax, as ever, hold a firm line.

Technical director Jordi Cruyff confirmed over the weekend that “Godts will leave,” but stressed it will only happen “at the right time and for the right price.” It was a message to suitors and an invitation in the same breath.
