Juventus Sign Nick Woltemade on Loan from Newcastle

Juventus have struck a deal to sign Newcastle United forward Nick Woltemade on a season-long loan, moving quickly to land a striker before Tuesday’s transfer deadline.

The 24-year-old is expected in Turin for a medical after the clubs agreed a £3.5m loan fee. The agreement is strictly a temporary one: there is no option or obligation to buy included in the deal.

Juventus pick Woltemade over Zirkzee

Juventus had been scouring the market for a new forward with Jonathan David poised to join Atletico Madrid on loan. The Italian club held talks with Manchester United over Joshua Zirkzee, whose proposed switch to Fiorentina collapsed, but walked away when United pushed for an obligation-to-buy clause.

Woltemade offered a different route. A better tactical fit in Juve’s eyes, and significantly cheaper. Crucially for the Turin side, the structure of the deal keeps them flexible, without the long-term financial commitment that Zirkzee’s move would have required.

Newcastle reshape their attack

Woltemade only arrived at Newcastle from Stuttgart in August 2025, a headline £69m signing who was meant to spearhead a new era under the club’s ambitious ownership. But under new manager Matthias Jaissle, his role has been reduced in the opening weeks of the season.

He has started just one of Jaissle’s first three games. On Saturday, he came off the bench at Tottenham Hotspur and made an impact, setting up Yoane Wissa’s goal in a 2-0 away win, yet that cameo has not altered the club’s wider strategy.

Newcastle have been preparing for this exit. Their pursuit of Lille forward Matias Fernandez-Pardo always hinted at a reshuffle in attack, and that move is now close. Fernandez-Pardo flew into Tyneside on Monday evening to finalise a transfer worth up to £55m, clearing the path for Woltemade’s departure to Serie A.

So Woltemade heads to Turin in search of minutes and responsibility, while Juventus get their striker and Newcastle double down on a new attacking blueprint. The question now is simple: who will look smarter when the season is done?
