Joe Bursik Returns to AFC Wimbledon on Loan

Joe Bursik has completed an emotional return to AFC Wimbledon, rejoining the club on loan from Championship side Portsmouth for the rest of the season.

The 26-year-old goalkeeper heads back to Plough Lane more than a decade after he first pulled on a Wimbledon shirt as an eight-year-old in the academy. He left the club at 16 to sign for Stoke City, beginning a senior journey that has taken him up and down the English pyramid.

Bursik broke through at Stoke in the 2020-21 campaign, impressing with seven clean sheets in 16 Championship appearances. That spell underlined his potential and was followed by a series of loans that hardened his edge: Telford, Accrington, Doncaster, Peterborough. Different leagues, different pressures, the same education for a young goalkeeper learning his trade the hard way.

Portsmouth moved for him in September 2025, and he has since made 10 league appearances for Pompey. He also started their high-profile FA Cup third-round tie against Arsenal at Fratton Park, a night that ended in a 4-1 defeat but added another major occasion to his CV.
