Hansi Flick’s First Barcelona Lineup: Bold Choices and Youth Focus

Hansi Flick has wasted no time putting his stamp on Barcelona. For the season opener against Elche CF this evening, the German coach has gone with a starting XI that underlines both his ruthlessness and his faith in youth.

Alejandro Balde, Marc Casado and Hector Fort were already notable absentees from the initial squad list. That alone raised eyebrows. The lineup itself pushes the conversation even further.

Espart in, Cancelo out (for now)

The bench is just as intriguing. Anthony Gordon waits for his first competitive minutes in a Barcelona shirt and looks a strong candidate to feature in the second half.
