Genoa's Striker Hunt: Taremi and Lucca on the Radar

Genoa’s striker hunt is turning into one of the late stories of the window, and a familiar Serie A name has moved into view.

Daniele De Rossi wants a new centre-forward to anchor his Genoa side, and former Inter striker Mehdi Taremi is on the list of options being examined. Not at the top of it, but close enough to be taken seriously.

Lucca in focus as Genoa face Napoli

As they weigh that risk, Genoa are also looking within Serie A. Lorenzo Lucca has emerged as another concrete loan possibility.

The twist: his club, Napoli, visit Marassi this weekend. That puts Lucca right in front of Genoa’s eyes at the exact moment decisions are being made. A strong performance there could harden interest. A quiet one might push the club back towards other names.

Taremi stays in the frame

Into that context steps Mehdi Taremi.

The Iranian international, who left Inter and hit 16 goals for Olympiacos last season, is being closely followed. He also featured at this summer’s World Cup, keeping his profile high and his market lively. Genoa do not see him as their first choice, but he remains firmly under consideration, aware that there is competition for his signature from other clubs.

If the Ferguson deal drags or Lucca proves unattainable, Taremi’s experience and recent scoring form could quickly look more attractive.

Genoa cast the net wider

De Rossi and the recruitment team are not limiting themselves to Italy.

Abroad, they are monitoring Milutin Osmajic of Preston, a Montenegrin forward with physical presence, and Moroccan striker Tawfik Bentayeb at Union Touarga. Both are part of a broader sweep of profiles as Genoa test every possible route before the market shuts.
