Gabriel Jesus has wasted no time settling into his new life at Barcelona – and he is already sounding like a man who has found the right home.

The Brazilian forward, a late-window arrival from Premier League champions Arsenal, made his Blaugrana debut at the weekend, stepping off the bench in a 5-0 demolition of Valencia. It was a gentle introduction on the pitch, but off it he is already fully tuned in to Hansi Flick’s demands and the club’s identity.

Barcelona turned to the 29-year-old after failing to land first-choice target Julián Álvarez, identifying Jesus as a cut-price solution who still brings elite experience from his spells at Manchester City and Arsenal. He spent the week bedding into his new surroundings in Catalunya, getting to know Flick’s ideas and a dressing room packed with technical quality.

The early verdict from the player himself could hardly be more positive.

“We have a very great team full of quality and we play beautiful football. I have to make the most of my chances to play,” Jesus said after the final whistle, clearly energised by his first taste of Barça’s attacking structure.

Then came the line that will play well with supporters at the Olympic Stadium and beyond.

“I love football and I love Barcelona. This is the way I love playing! It makes me very happy.”
