Fiorentina Rejects Free-Agent Jadon Sancho as Rebuild Progresses

Jadon Sancho’s long‑mooted path to Serie A has closed again, and this time it feels more definitive.

A year ago, the winger sat at the heart of a tug-of-war involving Roma, his future seemingly pointed towards Italy before the move collapsed and he headed to Aston Villa instead. Manchester United then drew a line under his time at Old Trafford, choosing not to extend his contract beyond this summer.

Now a free agent, Sancho’s name has been back on the desks of Serie A sporting directors. One of them, though, has already said no.

According to Alfredo Pedullà, Fiorentina were offered the chance to move for the 24‑year‑old two weeks ago, when Sancho’s entourage contacted the club to gauge their interest. The response from Florence was clear: thanks, but no.

No transfer fee, a player of proven European pedigree, and still they walked away. That decision says as much about Fiorentina’s new direction as it does about Sancho’s recent decline.

La Viola have been busy reshaping their squad this summer and chose a different route entirely, bringing in highly rated Franco Mastantuono instead. Younger, less baggage, a cleaner recent record. For a club trying to reset its identity, the calculation was straightforward.

The call also bears the fingerprints of Fabio Paratici. The former Juventus and Tottenham director, now driving Fiorentina’s rebuild, knows Sancho well from his time in England. He has seen the highs and the struggles up close. With the club intent on building something more stable and long-term, Paratici opted for a profile he believes fits the project better.

Fiorentina’s refusal underlines how far Sancho’s stock has fallen. Not long ago, he was one of Europe’s most coveted young attackers. Today, even as a free agent, a major Serie A club in need of attacking flair has decided the risk outweighs the potential reward.

Sancho will find other suitors. Talent like his rarely disappears from the market. But with Roma last year and now Fiorentina stepping away, the question grows louder: where does he go next to rebuild a career that once seemed destined for the very top?
