Fiorentina Pursues Joao Mario from Juventus with Loan-and-Buy Offer

Fiorentina have made their move for Juventus full-back Joao Mario, tabling a formal offer built around an initial loan and a potential permanent deal worth close to €9m.

According to reports from Gianluca Di Marzio, the Viola have proposed a season-long loan with an option to buy set in the €8m–€9m range, a structure that suits both their budget and Juventus’ desire to find a solution for a player who sits outside Luciano Spalletti’s plans for the 2026-27 campaign.

The feeling around the deal is clear: this could accelerate quickly. Talks are already advanced enough that an agreement is being described as possible within the coming week, with all parties keen to avoid a long summer stalemate.

Joao Mario’s situation in Turin has shifted sharply over the past year. Signed from Porto for €12.6m in the previous summer window, he arrived as a modern full-back option, capable of stretching the flank and offering energy in both phases. His impact, though, never truly settled. He featured just 10 times in Serie A for the Bianconeri before Juventus opted to send him to Bologna in January, in a loan swap that saw Emil Holm head the other way.

That double move failed to become anything more permanent. Neither Juventus nor Bologna triggered a long-term agreement, leaving Joao Mario back in Turin this summer, training in pre-season but without a clear role in Spalletti’s project.

Fiorentina now sense an opportunity. A relatively low-risk loan, a defined buy option, and a 26-year-old full-back with Serie A experience and resale potential. Juventus, for their part, stand to move on a non-essential asset and edge closer to recouping the fee paid to Porto.

If the final details fall into place as expected, Joao Mario’s next step will not be another uncertain loan, but a genuine chance to relaunch his career in Florence – and to prove that last season’s stop-start campaign was only a pause, not the pattern.
