Everton Pursues Folarin Balogun as Transfer Deadline Approaches

Everton have dived into the final, frantic hours of the European transfer window with a bold move for Folarin Balogun, lighting up a deal that could ripple from Merseyside to Monaco and all the way to Mexico.

According to Fabrizio Romano and Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri, the Premier League club have lodged a formal bid to sign the United States international from Monaco, as they scramble to reshape their attack before the deadline.

Everton push hard for Balogun

At 25 and with Arsenal on his CV, Balogun is keen on a return to English football. Those close to the talks describe a player who has already given the green light: he wants back into the Premier League, back into a league he knows and a country that knows him.

Everton’s need is urgent. Beto is on the brink of joining Fiorentina, and his departure opens up both a gap in the squad and crucial financial room. The club have moved quickly, sending an offer of around €18 million to Monaco as they look to turn Balogun into the focal point of their new-look forward line at Goodison Park.

The player’s side is not the problem. Personal terms between Balogun and Everton are already agreed. The real battle is with Monaco’s valuation. The Ligue 1 club want close to €40 million, seeking to recover the outlay they made when they brought him in. The two clubs remain locked in talks, searching for a compromise as the clock ticks down on the window.

A striker in limbo

Balogun has yet to play a single official minute for Monaco this Ligue 1 season. After featuring in the summer with the USMNT at the World Cup, he has focused on fitness work while his representatives and the club work behind the scenes to secure him a move worthy of his status.

The Balogun deal directly influences another operation: Erik Lira’s proposed switch to the Principality.

Monaco and Cruz Azul already have an agreement in place for the Mexican midfielder. But there is a catch. Lira cannot be registered until Monaco free up a non-EU spot in their squad. That space depends on Balogun’s departure.

Only when the American striker leaves will Monaco unlock the foreign-player slot Lira needs to complete his move from Liga MX to Ligue 1. Until then, the Mexican’s future hangs on the outcome of a negotiation being driven from England.

Monaco at least feel covered in attack. The emergence of young German forward Paris Brunner has given their sporting department confidence that they can afford to let Balogun go, provided the price is right. Their priority now is clear: accelerate the sale, clear the quota, and bring Lira into the heart of their midfield.

Everton beat the noise

Throughout the window, Balogun’s name has been linked with several Premier League clubs. Tottenham, Aston Villa, and Newcastle all sent out signals of interest at various points.
