Erling Haaland Scores Against Every Premier League Team

Erling Haaland left the Etihad on Sunday with another win, another goal and another line in the history books.

With his late strike in Manchester City’s wild 5-3 victory over Sunderland, the Norwegian has now scored against every single Premier League side he has faced – 25 out of 25 since arriving in England in August 2022.

The last box ticked

Sunderland were the last blank on his domestic checklist, and they had made him work for it. Across his first two league meetings with them, Haaland drew a rare blank: three shots, 159 minutes, no goal. For a striker who devours records, that kind of anomaly lingers.

On Sunday, as the clock ticked into the final 10 minutes, it looked like the irritation might continue. Then came the familiar scene.

A ball flashed across the box. Haaland slid in at the back post in the 81st minute, stretching every inch of that frame to force it over the line. The Etihad roared. He turned to celebrate — and then had to wait.

Just as in last week’s Manchester derby, VAR stepped in after the on-field decision went against him. Just as in last week’s derby, the technology reversed the call. Goal given. Sunderland added to the list. Collection complete, at least for now.

A ruthless ledger of victims

The numbers behind that collection are as brutal as you’d expect.

• West Ham have suffered most: 11 goals in just eight games.
• Crystal Palace and Wolverhampton Wanderers follow with 10 each, from six and seven matches respectively.
• Manchester United have shipped nine to him in eight derbies. Fulham have conceded eight in eight.
• Everton and Brighton & Hove Albion have both been hit for seven.
• Arsenal, the team City have battled for titles, have watched him score six times in eight league meetings.
• Some clubs barely had a chance to work him out. Ipswich Town have already seen four goals fly past them in only two games.
• Burnley have conceded five in four.
• Leicester City took three in two.
• Leeds United, his boyhood club, have been punished twice in three.

At the other end of the scale sit the one-off victims: Sheffield United, Luton Town, Coventry City and now Sunderland have all conceded a solitary Haaland goal so far. Aston Villa and Newcastle United have also kept him relatively quiet by comparison, with one goal each in five and seven games.

But the key detail remains: every Premier League opponent he has faced, he has scored against.

Kane company – and a new target

That perfect record puts Haaland in a very select group.

Only one player before him has played more than one Premier League game and scored against every team they faced: Harry Kane. The former Tottenham Hotspur captain, now at Bayern Munich, found the net against all 32 clubs he came up against in the competition.

Kane is building something similar in Germany. Since moving to Bayern, he has scored against 21 of the 22 teams he has faced in the Bundesliga, with only Schalke 04 escaping so far, and that from just a single game.

There is an even smaller, quirkier club within this statistic. Four players have scored against every Premier League opponent they faced, but each of them only played one match in the competition: Aidan Newhouse, Gary Bull, Chris David and Josh Harrop. One game, one goal, one perfect record.

Haaland’s version is built on volume and relentlessness rather than novelty.

Hull on the horizon, Lampard in the distance

His 100% record will be tested again soon. Haaland has never faced Hull City in the Premier League. That changes in City’s final league fixture before Christmas, currently set for 19 December. If he plays, he will need a goal to make it 26 out of 26 and keep the streak spotless.

Beyond that, there is a far bigger mountain.

Frank Lampard holds the Premier League record for the most different teams scored against: 39. Andrew Cole sits just behind on 38. Jermain Defoe and all-time leading scorer Alan Shearer both finished on 37.

Haaland, still in the early chapters of his English career, is a long way from those marks. But he has already turned every opponent he has met into a statistic on his side of the ledger.

Sunderland were the last name on one list. Hull, and then Lampard’s towering record, are waiting on the next.
