Chelsea Set Price for Liam Delap Amid Premier League Interest

Chelsea have named their price for Liam Delap – and it has not scared off the Premier League pack.

Everton, Nottingham Forest and Leeds United are all circling the 23-year-old striker, with Chelsea ready to listen if bids land between £35 million and £40 million, according to the i Paper.

From £30m coup to uncertain future

Twelve months ago, Delap arrived at Stamford Bridge as a statement signing. Chelsea beat off strong interest, most notably from Manchester United, to prise him away from Ipswich Town in a £30m deal after his eye-catching breakthrough in the top flight.

He was supposed to be the next big thing. Instead, his first season in blue never really got going.

In a stop-start campaign punctured by injuries and suspension, Delap mustered just two goals in 41 appearances and spent most of the year watching Joao Pedro lead the line. The Brazilian settled quickly; Delap never found the same rhythm.

As the season wore on, he slipped from prospect to afterthought.

Alonso reshapes the attack

Xabi Alonso’s arrival has only sharpened the focus on Delap’s situation. Chelsea have moved aggressively to reshape their forward line, and the competition is piling up.

Emmanuel Emegha has come in from Strasbourg. Danny Welbeck is poised to join from Brighton, bringing experience and a different profile in the final third. Nicolas Jackson is back from a largely disappointing loan spell at Bayern Munich and will be desperate to prove he belongs.

For Delap, the message is clear: nothing will be handed to him.

With Chelsea now seemingly open to cashing in at the right price, the market has responded. Forest and Leeds see him as an ideal foil and challenger to their established No.9s, Chris Wood and Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Everton’s interest is long-standing, with David Moyes understood to be a firm admirer of the striker’s physical presence and potential.

Keep or cash in?

Not everyone at Stamford Bridge is ready to close the book on Delap.

Former England midfielder Danny Murphy believes Alonso will want a proper look at the forward before any sale is signed off.

“I think any manager coming in has to give players a chance so I think he’ll want to look at them and see what they’ve got,” he told Metro, highlighting the financial and political realities that shape modern transfers – wages, fees, and the simple question of who is actually willing to buy.

Murphy also pointed out that Delap is not alone in struggling to ignite Chelsea’s attack. He argued that, aside from Joao Pedro, many of the club’s forwards have underwhelmed and suggested that if one attacker was to make way, Alejandro Garnacho would be a likelier departure than Delap.

For Murphy, Delap still offers something Chelsea lack: a different kind of centre forward, a young striker with attributes that contrast with Pedro’s movement and guile. In his view, that makes Delap worth another look under Alonso.

So the stage is set.

A defined price. Serious interest from three Premier League clubs. A new manager weighing up what he has, and what he can afford to lose.
