Celtic Smash Transfer Record to Sign Kasper Hogh

Celtic have torn up their transfer ceiling to land Kasper Hogh in a club-record deal that underlines exactly where the Scottish champions intend to go next.

The Parkhead hierarchy have agreed an £11million-plus package with Bodo/Glimt for the prolific Danish striker, a fee that will eclipse the previous record shelled out on Arne Engels two years ago once add-ons are triggered. Hogh is expected in Glasgow for a medical in the coming days and, if all goes to plan, will sign a long-term contract with the Premiership kingpins.

This is not a cautious tweak to a winning squad. It is a statement.

The board have thrown their weight behind Martin O'Neill with the most expensive signing in Celtic’s history, arming their manager with a centre-forward who has been punishing defences on the European stage.

Hogh, 25, leaves Norway with a fearsome record: 54 goals and 22 assists in 103 games for Bodo/Glimt. The numbers are impressive enough, but it is where some of those goals have come that will really sharpen Celtic appetites.

Last season he struck six times in the Champions League as Bodo/Glimt surged to the last 16. He scored against Sturm Graz. He scored against Atletico Madrid. He scored against Inter Milan and Sporting Lisbon. He even put two past Manchester City. This is a striker who has already tested himself against the elite and found the net.

At 6ft 1in, Hogh offers presence as well as pedigree. Celtic are not just buying a finisher; they are buying a focal point.

A new frontline taking shape

The Dane will spearhead what is fast becoming a rebuilt, high-end attack. His arrival creates a £17m strike partnership alongside new £6m signing Camilo Duran, snapped up after rattling in five goals in last season’s Champions League for Qarabag.

European experience is no longer a luxury in Celtic’s recruitment. It is the brief.

The timing is no accident either. Daizen Maeda’s move to Ipswich Town has brought in an initial £8m, with a further £2m in potential add-ons, and that cash is being turned around quickly. One key attacker out, two Champions League goal scorers in. The intent is obvious: Celtic do not plan to tiptoe into next month’s Champions League play-off.

Business far from done

The transfer drive is not stopping at the front line. Talks remain ongoing with Bundesliga side Paderborn over a £4m deal for midfielder Mika Baur, as O'Neill looks to add more energy and quality in the middle of the park.

Out wide, Real Oviedo winger Haissem Hassan has emerged as another target, with Celtic pushing to get further deals over the line before their European fate is decided.

For now, though, the spotlight falls on Hogh. A record fee. Champions League goals on his CV. A new partnership with Duran waiting to be unleashed.
