Besiktas Makes Final Offer for Mohamed Salah

Besiktas have made their move for Mohamed Salah – and, according to sporting director Önder Özent, they have also made their last.

The Istanbul club are in talks with the former Liverpool star, now a free agent after leaving Anfield at the end of last season, and have formally put an offer on the table. That proposal, Özent insists, will not be improved.

“This is our final offer to Salah,” he told reporters, via Turkish outlet Fanatik. “Besiktas’ offer, made on its own terms, is on the table. If a response to this offer comes, it can be evaluated. But Besiktas will not make another offer.”

A straight message, delivered with intent: take it or leave it.

A Stand-Off Over Money and Principle

Besiktas have pushed hard to bring Salah to Istanbul. Özent revealed that the club met the Egyptian’s camp three times, initially steering clear of the financial minefield to build the framework of a deal. Talks, at first, flowed.

“Everything was going smoothly up to that point,” he said.

Then came 21 July. Then came the numbers.

Once the financial discussions began, the rhythm changed. Requests from Salah’s representatives, particularly around commission, slowed negotiations to a crawl. What had looked like a clear path suddenly became congested.

“Requests began to emerge that would bring both the flow of information and the financial side to a standstill,” Özent explained, adding that he believed “a respected athlete like Salah” was likely unaware of the details of those demands.

For Besiktas, that was the red line.

Özent underlined that the club operates within a strict policy on payments and commissions, set out clearly by the president. That framework, he stressed, cannot be bent for any player, even one of Salah’s stature. There is a legally defined commission rate, and crossing it, he argued, would move the club into dangerous, even illegal territory.

“The club has a policy, and it cannot deviate from that policy,” he said. “Our president identified the line he would not cross very clearly and stood his ground. Management is a legal business; there is a legally established commission rate, and exceeding that would constitute an illegal situation.”

The message to the fanbase is equally pointed. According to Özent, refusing to go beyond those limits is not just about compliance; it is about identity.

“When it comes to Beşiktaş, avoiding such a situation is a requirement of being a Besiktas supporter,” he said, framing the decision as a matter of principle rather than short-term popularity. The president, he added, by refusing to make a “populist decision,” has “stepped away from the table for now.”

Salah Weighing Options

Besiktas are not alone in the chase. Özent confirmed that Salah’s camp is also in talks with another club as the forward considers his next step after a glittering spell at Liverpool.

“They've said they're in talks with another club as well; perhaps they'll reach an agreement there,” he admitted.

So the offer from Istanbul sits there, untouched but not withdrawn. Besiktas will wait, but they will not budge.

For Salah, it is a choice between paths. For Besiktas, it is a statement that, even for a global star, the club’s limits are not negotiable.
