Jofre to Ajax, with Barça keeping a safety net

The operation was expected to be completed and unveiled on Sunday. Ajax played their first match of the season, though, and the timing of the official announcement slipped to Monday. The deal, however, has been green-lit at board level.

Jofre’s absence from Barcelona’s trip to Udine on Saturday underlined how advanced the talks were. While Michel Sanchez’s side travelled, the young full-back stayed behind, waiting for clarity on his next step.

Ajax’s full-back puzzle and a La Liga twist
